Introduction

Beijing Normal University (BNU) was estab1ished in 1902. At that time it was the Faculty of Education of the Metropolitan University, a teacher-training school. It was renamed Beijing Normal University in 1923. 

Over the last one hundred years, the faculty and students, motivated by a strong sense of responsibility for the nation and the people, have strived to live up to the motto of "study to teach and act to example". BNU has developed into a vital education and research base for multi-disciplinary and advanced scientific studies. 

The Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, is the only branch campus directly affiliated with its main campus in Beijing. It was founded under the guiding principle:

“State owned, institution administrated, market directed, totally new and innovative”. The campus will utilize its position to be a gateway of  Beijing Normal University to the world. School management and operational methods will follow market economics and business operation principles. 

Based on these principles, the campus will take up tasks of redefining education systems, teaching models, management methods, and encouraging international cooperation. Our goal is to incorporate market application and research concepts into educational practices.

These new approaches will lead to the realization of the true spirit of Beijing Normal University, which is to encourage creativity and innovative developments.

  Location 

The Zhuhai campus is situated in the city proper of Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. Transport links to the rest of the country are excellent, with Guangzhou, Macau, and Hong Kong easily reachable by cars or ferries (1hour ferry ride from Hong Kong and 20 minutes car-ride from Macau). With the Phoenix Mountain in the backdrop, overlooking the sea, the campus provides a scenic and tranquil living and learning environment for all. 

Objectives 

Beijing Normal University and Zhuhai People’s government jointly funded the Zhuhai Campus. It attracted social capitals from all over the community. The main objective is to build a comprehensive educational park with a special focus and emphasis on higher education.

Development Strategy and Direction 

Supported by Beijing Normal University, the Zhuhai branch (established in the southern part of mainland) will radiate specialized training, and innovative teaching methodology directed towards Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. With this focus and emphasis, we are confident that we will become a bridge connecting the Mainland with the world.


Future Plans and Development

In the first 5 years, our aim is to enroll a student population of 15000.
After completion of the first stage growth, the campus will be ready to exert its influence to the southern China region including the Hong Kong and Macau.

In the next 3 to 5 years, we aim to have a student body of about 35,000. The campus will then be fully functional. Our target is to make the Zhuhai campus a first class university. 

The Third step, in 30 years, will see the establishment of the Zhuhai campus as one of the world’s renowned comprehensive educational parks.

Looking Ahead

The Zhuhai Campus uses an open model of education. The student body will mainly consist of full time students. However, it will simultaneously develop a multi-educational model that encompasses on-line education, distance learning, adult continuing education, international cooperation, inter-colleague cooperation etc.

Backed by Beijing Normal University, which has 100 years of rich experience in further education, validated curricula, and a famous reputation, it will be able to provide general higher education, adult education, vocational training, basic education, international cooperation, international exchange program, international education forum, educational software development base, and able to provide Teacher Certification.

The Zhuhai campus staff will strive to excel and reach the goal of becoming an established platform that emphasizes integration of education with technology and industrial research. Students graduating from this university will be well-rounded individuals who can perform and add value to society.

We aim to accelerate the education development of Zhuhai, Guangdong and the whole Southern China region, thus improving the living standards of people in the region.

The Zhuhai campus will provide citizens with the facilities to gain higher education, develop technical skills and in this way benefit the economic growth.
